Microsoft Announces The Final Version Of Windows
In a statement at the Ignite 2015 conference Microsoft released news that it plans to change its software methodology with future OS upgrades. Windows will evolve in increments, instead of the standalone versions, in an “ongoing manner”.
Microsoft employee Jerry Nixon, an executive developer speaking at the company’s Ignite conference said “Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10.”
He further went on to explain how he company has been working on the base of Windows 10 throughout last year even when it launched Windows 8.1. The company is planning to further push updates to this latest operating system but isn’t going to release a completely new version.
Windows 10 would be the “last version” of the widespread PC software is what Nixon hinted. The reason why they have made this change is that Microsoft reportedly plans to launch Windows as a service. However, they haven’t explained how they are going to do it. “Microsoft has altered the way it engineers and delivers Windows, and the initial result is Windows 10. Instead of big releases, there will be regular improvements and updates. Part of this is achieved by splitting up operating system components like the Start Menu and built-in apps to be separate parts that can be updated independently to the entire Windows core operating system.”
Microsoft seems not to have decided as to the name that will be christened to the newer Windows post Windows 10. It is for sure that there will be no Windows 11. Microsoft is said to have intentionally chosen Windows 10 skipping Windows 9, in the series of nomenclature, to earmark a stand-off from past Operating System (OS) versions overlooking numerous challenges to the company and its customers.
Steve Kleynhans, a research vice president at analyst firm Gartner, monitoring Microsoft said “Every three years or so Microsoft would sit down and create ‘the next great OS’. The developers would be locked away and out would pop a product based on what the world wanted three years ago.” Then Microsoft would be involved in disbursing tremendous financing and sales efforts in proving the necessity of the present newer version and it being better-than-any of the older versions of OS.
Microsoft generates the majority of its revenues from sales of new systems along with new Windows operating systems and it will remain that way Mr. Kleynhans said.
These changes symbolize a massive change for the company and its historical delivery of operating systems making the plan high risk but potentially very rewarding. It calls for hard work on the part of Microsoft within gaining acceptance from the market and offering continuous value to its updates but could represent a new age for the company.
