Do You Really Need The New Apple Smart Watch?
With hype building for the new Apple Watch we are asking the question do you really need the device?
Apple has made a great case for the watch with it being an impressively crafted device but the concern is will this just pull people even further into their unsociable bubble of playing with their mobile devices.
Some people believe the item is actually designed to help us stay more engaged in real life (because you don’t have to reach for your phone as often), but is it just another way to distract yourself from the real world whilst not offering much further value than a typical smartphone brings right now.
What does the watch do? It’s a notifications and messaging satellite for the iPhone. It’s a fitness tracker with a fairly average set of features and as you’d expect you can use it to tell the time. It comes with no voice or data service of its own and doesn’t include GPS. The other plus sides however are that it’s a mobile payments device and a music player that can work without your phone.
This is quite a smart business move for Apple. They have sold over 700 million iPhones and every single one will automatically have the Apple Watch app installed so if you consider that just 5% of their existing customers purchase this item at the starting price of $349 they will be generating twelve billion, two hundred and fifteen million in revenue! That’s not taking into consideration that they are offering gold versions which are being priced at the eye watering sum of $10,000!
