Mullah Mohammad Omar Is Alive
Notorious Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar is allegedly alive according to the Taliban website. Beside the news that he is alive the website also posted a full biography of their leader.
The message was clear “The one-eyed jihadist is alive, in Afghanistan and very much in charge.”
Omar is well known to the public as he fought against the Soviets and ruled Afghanistan until the US invasion in 2001. His radical attitude, aggressive appearance and strictly militant actions made him a fierce leader with a huge group of supporters.
The reason why this biography and statement is published now is disputed between the Taliban movement and ISIS. Right now, besides the fight with the western world, they are fighting one against each other. Some would say this is quite an interesting public relations move. The 5000 words document also stated that there is no major disruption in their activities and that Omar is still the leader in charge.
The ISIS base is currently in Iraq and Syria, but they tend to spread their influence in South Asia as well, where the Taliban group have its camp. Some of Omar’s followers left camps on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan recently due to the lack of leadership.
The biography said that Omar is now 55 years old, he has no home or foreign bank accounts. He is dedicated to reading jihadi publications and follows world affairs, the post added. All of this seems like a commercial or better put, encouragement for Taliban supporters not to leave their cause and join the Islamic State.
ZabihullahMujahed, Taliban spokesman said that ISIS is not fighting the Taliban in any way and that he hasn’t seen any presence of their activities that could affect the work of his group. He also added that Omar is shifting from town to town every now and then to remain safe because he is leading a big war.
Mujahed diminished the meaning of Islamic State by adding that their existence is unnecessary, not just now, but in the future as well. “Afghanistan has its own Mujahedeen as we are here to fulfill that Islamic obligation.” he said.
The biography contains every single detail of his life, from his strict Muslim education, his school days and his beginnings as mujahedeen. Some of the facts written in this text are bordering on fiction with parts depicting his heroic actions both against Russians in the 80s and Americans now.
He is also represented as a loving and admirable person, a worthy leader for every true Muslim.
Afghan senator, Faisal Sami, commented on this as yet another ploy to strengthen the morale of soldiers still fighting with Taliban army.
It was believed that Omar died from heart illness four years ago, but he gave a few statements over the past few years with the most recent one being last year, when he called US troops to withdraw from Afghanistan.
